Shillinglaw was born and raised in Illinois and has always been interested in drawing and painting. Her early art education consisted of a few classes at the Art Institute of Chicago and, during high school, at the Elgin Academy in Elgin, Illinois. Now, after a hiatus during which she raised a family and worked as a teacher, a computer programmer, and a realtor, she has returned to her first love – oil painting. Living in California and Hawaii was a visual delight, but it was the move to Colorado with its beautiful mountains and prairies that inspired a return to painting. She has studied with Barbara Bartels, Sparky LeBold, Cottonwood Artists’ School, Kevin MacPherson and Tim Deibler.
Her paintings are currently exhibited in the gift shop at the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, Colorado and at the Spanish Peaks Art Council gallery in LaVeta, Colorado.
